Track Editor in Dreamcast

Re-Volt (DC) refers to the version of Re-Volt designed for the Sega Dreamcast game console. This version of the game is the most advanced console version, running on the same engine as the PC version, utilizing most of the PC file formats. It features more cars, all of which are mostly repaints/overhauled stock cars; BigVolt and BossVolt are exclusive cars. There is also one extra track: Rooftops.

Graphical differences[]

Perhaps the most interesting thing about the Dreamcast version is its graphics. It contains custom loading screens, fonts, a slightly remixed track editor, VMU art, and 12 extra images in the Gallery. It runs at roughly 30FPS, but will drop with lots of effects or vehicles on screen. As it was ported properly to the Dreamcast via most likely the Katana SDK, it doesn't use Windows-format bitmaps for textures but rather PVR files, hardware decodable textures for the onboard Dreamcast PowerVR chip. Also it uses alpha channel as opposed of pure black transparency hack.

Behavioral differences[]

It is unknown to what extent these inconsistencies exist, or to what extent the car and track loading behavior in the DC version is hardcoded. This version of Re-Volt majorly loads its cars from the CARINFO.TXT file. Some cars seem to load from Parameters.txt, not CARINFO. Trying to load custom tracks into Re-Volt via swapping out everything in a folder since you can't add new tracks will work, but it won't load instances or objects.

More information on the cars can be seen on the cars page

This version of the game did not support online play, most likely because SegaNet hadn't been launched yet. (it was an early Dreamcast release). It supported four player splitscreen, though.
